Import & Export Formats — ThisTask
Everything here runs on your device: importing a file or a snippet never leaves this browser, and the same reading rules apply at every entrance. What differs is what each entrance does with what it reads.
What you can bring in
Markdown (.md, .markdown), plain text (.txt), .csv, and .json — as a dropped file or pasted text. Both take the same reading rules.
Where you import, and what happens
- Home, the create box. One task becomes a draft right in the form — a leading heading or file name may become the task name. Several tasks ask for confirmation first, then land in the task library.
- The task library. Rows become tasks, one per row; nothing is written before you confirm the selection.
- A task page, the Import panel. Steps for the open task only. Tables, JSON, and multi-task files are declined on purpose with a pointer to the library — that is where rows become tasks.
- A shared link. The task arrives as a preview; you choose to keep it as a task or save it as a template. Nothing is written until you pick.
The reading rules
# Headingnames the task; the lines under it are its steps.- [x] steparrives already done — the checkmark is kept.- Plain text is one step per line, and commas split a line into more steps. Blank lines are ignored.
- A
>quote is a note attached to the line above it, never a step — so exports re-import cleanly. - A
.csvis read one task per row;.jsonpayloads that hold tasks are read as tasks.
What you can take out
- Share a task as a link or QR code — only the title and steps travel, inside the link itself. That part of a URL is never sent to any server.
- Archive a finished task as HTML or PNG — its steps, notes, and times, laid out for keeping or posting.
Exports are built locally too. See the privacy policy for what stays on your device.
